What they are

What are occupational lenses?

Do you lift your chin to see the monitor with your distance glasses? Does your neck hurt at the end of the day? Those symptoms have a name: raised-chin syndrome. And a solution: occupational lenses.

Unlike pharmacy reading glasses (only at 40 cm) or conventional progressives (all distances), occupational lenses are calibrated specifically for the work environment: from the keyboard to colleagues across the office. They have an inverted-progression design that optimises most of the lens for working distances (40 cm to 4 m).

No. Occupational lenses are optimised for indoor distances (up to 4 metres). For driving you need a full distance prescription, which occupational lenses do not safely cover. Use them exclusively in your work environment and keep your distance glasses for driving or outdoor activities.

Progressives are designed for all distances (far, intermediate and near), so the space for each zone is reduced. Occupational lenses concentrate most of the lens on working distances, with a high-definition visual field for the office that is far more comfortable. They are complementary, not substitutes.

With distance glasses you raise your chin to use the central area of the lens; with standard progressives you tilt your head back to use the intermediate zone. Both postures strain the neck over hours. Occupational lenses place the screen zone directly in front of your pupil, allowing a natural posture.

No. Their distance-vision zone is very limited and does not provide the sharpness needed to drive, do sport or move around open spaces safely. They are intended for indoor and office use.
